Beautiful Passages from Nei Jing: Diagnosis Skill

Learning and practicing this diagnostic method should be given due diligence since Nei Jing lists facial complexion diagnosis as the method of the higher quality doctor.  In Ling Shu chapter four, Huang Di states,“…见其色,知其病, 命曰明: 按其脉,知其病,命曰神;问其病,知其处, 命其工” or, “…when a physician can diagnose the disease by examining his complexion (color), they are called bright; when the physician can diagnose the disease of the patient by palpating the pulse, they are called “godlike”; when one can diagnose the disease by only inquiring the patient’s signs and symptoms, they are considered of average skill.”
